Reflections from our Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture Forum
Last week, we kicked off our Everyday AI series with HCR Law, bringing together farmers, technologists, legal experts and researchers to explore how AI is being used in the agriculture sector.
Key takeaways:
🤖 AI is broader than many realise, from machine learning and computer vision to generative AI, and many farmers are already using forms of AI without recognising it.
⏭️ Real-world applications are accelerating, including predictive livestock health analytics, automated lameness detection, data insights integrated into robotic milking, precision weed control, environmental monitoring and compliance tools.
🔗 Lack of integration is a major barrier: many farm technologies don’t integrate, creating duplicated effort and limiting the value of data-driven decisions.
😟 Trust, cost and data ownership remain critical concerns. Farmers want transparency, clear return on investment, and confidence that their data is protected and used appropriately.
🌐 Collaboration across agriculture, tech and cyber communities is essential to ensure AI solutions meet real-world needs and address key concerns of its target audience.
