Thrilled to share that my team placed 3rd in the IFAMA 2025 Venture Building Case Competition! 🎉🌍
Serving as this year’s Team Captain was an honor, and I am very proud of what we accomplished, especially knowing we competed against 26 teams from eight countries worldwide. The level of talent in this year’s competition made the experience even more rewarding.
The case challenged us to design market-driven solutions that improve the lives of smallholder farmers while strengthening value chains and supporting long-term resilience in agribusiness systems. We were asked to rethink how Agraya GmbH can use digital innovation in ways that remain accessible for farmers who face limited connectivity, low digital literacy, power shortages, and other structural constraints.
Our approach emphasized a hybrid technology model that works both offline and online, a human-centered interface built around voice prompts and simple icons, and a localized support structure through trusted community-based agents. We also outlined a data governance framework that protects farmers’ ownership of their information and proposed a realistic 12-month pilot that aligns partnerships, financial needs, and farmer incentives.
This experience showed the importance of creating solutions that are ambitious yet practical. I am grateful to my teammates Prabin Adhikari, Suraj Gurung, and Yetian Cai for their hard work, creativity, and focus throughout the competition. Competing on a global stage reaffirmed my commitment to inclusive innovation in agriculture and rural development.
I would also like to thank our team advisor, Xumin Zhang, for his relentless dedication and support throughout this competition. Three years ago, Dr. Zhang built the FRE case study team from scratch, and I am very thrilled that he is enjoying the rewards of the effort he has put into making this team a national and global champion for the past two years. Finally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the UF/IFAS Food and Resource Economics Department for consistently providing its graduate students with the platform to shine and implement all that we have been taught by our excellent professors.
Also tagging UF Graduate School, Student Support and Engagement, and UF/IFAS. University of Florida International Center, and the University of Florida, to check out the amazing accomplishments of its international graduate students!
Thank you to IFAMA for organizing such an impactful platform and to everyone who supported us along the way. Onward to the next challenge. 🐊 🧡 💙
