Bore Charger Technology for Regreening Farmlands The Bore Charger is a highly effective, cost-efficient, and scalable technology designed to enhance groundwater recharge in drought-affected, low-resource settings. It operates by employing a zigzag drilling technique (90 to 10 feet) to create multiple perforations in the casing pipe, tapping into various shallow aquifers and significantly increasing rainwater infiltration. This minimal-infrastructure intervention builds farmer resilience against climate variability. In 2024–25, the technology was deployed on farmer Jhon Wisely’s 6-acre farm in Hoti-B village, Sangareddy dist. Telangana under the Integrated Development (Ekakrit Vikas) Project, supported by Mahindra & Mahindra and implemented by BAIF Institute of Sustainable Livelihoods and Development. Prior to intervention, 2 acres were fallow due to acute water scarcity. The Bore Charger immediately struck active aquifers (30–40 feet), stabilising the water yield. Consequently, John cultivated his 2 previously fallow acres, harvesting 65 tonnes of sugarcane and yielding a gross income of ₹1,30,000. This resulted in a 31% increase in his total annual income and provided greater economic security for his family.
