Why I Started AgriTechs & Board Intelligence I Issue #1
I have spent quite some time looking closely at AgriTech—from evaluating startups and business models to researching emerging technologies, investment trends and the challenges of scaling innovation in agriculture.
The more I studied the sector, the more I realised that AgriTech is changing faster than the way we evaluate and govern it.
Agriculture is no longer being shaped only by weather, markets and farm practices. It is increasingly being shaped by AI, satellite imagery, IoT, drones, biotechnology, data platforms, climate technology and digital infrastructure.
At the same time, agriculture is facing a much more uncertain environment—climate volatility, geopolitical disruptions, input-price shocks, supply-chain vulnerabilities and growing pressure on natural resources.
This creates enormous opportunities. But it also creates questions that cannot be answered by technology alone.
Is technology solving a real problem?
Is the business model commercially viable?
Can the solution scale across fragmented agricultural markets?
Who owns and controls the data generated by farmers?
What happens when an AI-driven recommendation is wrong?
And perhaps most importantly:
Are boards equipped to govern businesses where technology, agriculture, capital, risk and human livelihoods increasingly intersect?
This is where I believe we need a new lens. Not simply more data. Not simply more technology. And certainly not technology for technology's sake.
We need better decision intelligence—the ability to translate technology, market signals, financial information, risks and stakeholder interests into better decisions.
That is why I started AgriTechs & Board Intelligence. Through this newsletter, I want to explore AgriTech through six interconnected lenses:
Opportunity | Investment | Governance | Risk | Technology | Scalability
My aim is to create a space for thoughtful conversations around what investors should evaluate, what founders should anticipate and what boards should ask as AgriTech businesses grow.
Because the next phase of AgriTech will not be defined only by how much technology we can deploy. It will also be defined by how intelligently we govern, invest in and scale it.
That is the conversation I hope to build here.
Welcome to AgriTechs & Board Intelligence.
