M12 West project reaches major milestone

The M12 West project has reached a major milestone with the completion of the Elizabeth Drive Upgrade, transforming a narrow rural road into a modern three-lane dual carriageway.

The 2.2-kilometre corridor now supports up to 28,000 motorists daily and provides a direct link to the new Western Sydney International Airport and surrounding communities including Bradfield, Badgerys Creek, Kemps Creek and Liverpool.

Delivered as part of the $2.1 billion toll-free M12 Motorway, the Elizabeth Drive Upgrade works included construction of a new bridge spanning the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project and Warami Drive, six major traffic switches, two intersections, and extensive utility relocations. In total, more than 450,000 cubic metres of fill, 24,000 tonnes of asphalt, and 8,500 cubic metres of concrete were placed.

Completed over 1,068 days, the project required more than 12,000 work hours in a live environment, maintaining traffic flow and minimising community impacts.

“This is a critical milestone for the M12 West project and Western Sydney, preparing for the opening of the new airport and building infrastructure that will support growth for decades to come," said Project Director Vishal Khosla.

"What stands out is how the team pulled together with our client, utilities, and partners to get the job done safely and efficiently.”
